The Federal and many State Governments are required by law to issue grants for many diverse needs. The Influx of grant money into the economy creates jobs, which in turn creates more tax revenue and reduces individual (and corporate) dependency on government subsistence programs
With our economy in flux, the need to distribute this money and create jobs has become critical.
Many Corporations and Foundations are required to grant a certain amount of their assets annually for a variety of reasons. Foundations are required to give away at least 5% of their total assets each year to maintain their tax-exempt status.
If you are thinking of starting or expanding a business, this is the category for you. Did you know Ross Perot started his first company with FREE Government Grant money? Or that Amazon. COM, Ameritrade and Ritz Camera all received money to start or expand their businesses?
The U.S. Government understands small business is essential to a vibrant economy.
As a result, many grants and low interest loan programs are available to stimulate small business. As a business owner or future entrepreneur, you may qualify for a variety of grants from public and private sources designed to enhance, expand or initiate your business.
We would also like to point out that, even if your specific reason for looking for a grant is not included in the list of 1,500, you can apply for a grant anyway. The chances of being eligible for ANY grant are very high, and can be applied to the purpose you specify. Don't be discouraged by specific names of grant programs. Our Grant Advisors will be able to help you locate possible grant opportunities after they contact you.
Keep in mind that as long as you are a U.S. Citizen of legal age and have paid your taxes in the past, you are eligible to apply.

Substance Abuse Rehabilitation For New Mommies
|
|
Drugs and alcohol are usually the immediate remedies of people who have seemingly overwhelming emotional, financial or personal problems. Some women even take them in their pregnancy, which puts baby at great risk.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) addresses such crises through the ?Pregnant and Postpartum Women (PPW)? program. This grant spreads the availability of comprehensive residential treatment, recovery support, and family services for pregnant or postpartum (period of up to 12 months after giving birth) women who have drug and alcohol problems. It also attends to their children who suffered the effects of these substances.
The program also encourages beneficiaries to include the fathers of the children, the partners of the women, and other extended family members in treatment if their needs are appropriate to be included in the non-residential services of the program. The grant length is 3 years.
Qualifying applicants are domestic public and private non-profit agencies like State and local governments, federally-recognized tribes and tribal organizations, urban Indian organizations, public or private universities and colleges, and community or faith-based organizations. Applicants who were funded in the September 29, 2006 PPW program are ineligible to apply. This program for Limited peroid.

School Food Programs For Children
|
|
Not all families can afford to give their kids the treatment they need and deserve. If these young individuals can?t have a decent meal at home, at least they have the opportunity to have one or two at school.
Public or private non-profit schools and public or private non-profit residential child care institutions are eligible to apply for these programs. Generally, children whose families earn at 130% of the federal poverty level are eligible to a free meal, while those whose families earn between 130% and 185% are eligible for lower-priced meals. In the milk program, the same eligibility requirements as the Lunch and Breakfast programs apply with the addition of camps. The school or camp provides either free or low-priced milk depending on their choice of program options.

|
|
How do we show gratitude to artists who have the drive but lack the opportunity to showcase their work?

It's specifically a project grant that support artists in refining their skills and give them the opportunity to influence the public's common perception on the arts, supports TV and radio art programs, gives the opportunity to present artistic works of all cultures and periods, gives the chance for artists to enhance their effectiveness as well as the arts organization?s. It helps preserve significant works of art and cultural traditions, activities that introduce foreign artists and cultural officials to American culture, and enriching children's knowledge about the arts through education initiatives.

Literacy Program For Natives And Tribes
|
|
Our native population may more often than not, have less opportunities to improve their lot than most. However, there is indeed a way to build a better future or themselves.
The 'Even Start' program is geared towards Indian tribes and other tribal organizations. This benefit tries to uplift our Native Americans from poverty and illiteracy. Basically, this program improves education of low-income families from tribal communities.
Projects of integrated family-literacy services include: adult literacy, parenting education, integrated parent-child literacy, and research-based early childhood education. These projects run all year including the summer. Provisions of staff training, child care, and transportation are also available.

Better Housing For Your Family
|
|
Is your family having trouble living under a poorly-constructed shelter? Let?s face it: houses like such aren?t designed for adequate family life. Most of what it?s made of isn?t suited for domestic architecture - the cheap and tender woodwork, the easy-rust roofing, the inferior piping and wiring ? you get the picture. Fortunately, turning to government for help is a viable alternative.
One government housing program worth noting is the HUD?s ?Housing Choice Voucher.? This assists elders, low-income families, and the disabled to acquire decent houses in the private market. These include single-family houses, apartments, and townhouses. The choices are not limited to subsidized homes given that they meet the eligibility requirements of the program.
These vouchers are locally held by public housing agencies (PHAs), setting the housing standards of minimum safety and health. Families that are granted this benefit choose the house they see fit and the owner agrees to lease under the program, as long as the chosen house meets PHA standards. The PHA pays the subsidized amount to the landlord and the remaining amount from the original rent cost is paid by the family.
Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens and non-citizens with immigration status and the participation depends on the family annual gross income and size, which are determined by the PHA. But generally, beneficiaries should not go over 50% of the median income for the country or the area where they choose to reside
The PHA must provide 70% of housing vouchers to interested parties whose incomes do not go over 30% of the area median income. The HUD sets these median income levels and they vary for different areas.

Discount On Phone Bills If You're Low-Income
|
|
Imagine what you can be doing if you don?t have a phone. You?d probably be going to office after office just to ask common inquiries, contact friends and relatives the long way, not to mention the hassle people have to endure informing you of an emergency.
You can be spared from all of that if you take part in the 'Lifeline' or 'Link-Up' programs. The ?Lifeline? will save you at least $10 a month on phone bills, including mobile phones, depending on which State you live in and phone service provider you have available. 'Link-Up' pays up to $30 in start-up fees, also including mobile phones, except for the phone itself, and allows borrowing of up to $200 for interest-free setup fees for a maximum of a year.
For tribal lands, there is the enhanced version of both services. Savings of up to $35 from monthly bills, even getting basic service for as low as $1 per month, for ?Lifeline,? while discounts of up to 50% of the first $60 of the installation fee, with an additional discount of $70 for above $60 installation fees, for 'Link-Up'.
In order to become eligible, you must have income at least 135% below the federal Poverty Guidelines, or participate in one of these:

Education For All -- Including The Homeless
|
|
Education is everyone?s right, and should be readily accessible regardless of financial situations. People start to make something of themselves by getting a good education.
The 'McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program' promotes free and appropriate public education (FAPE). The program is designed to establish an office in each State education agency (SEA) to coordinate education for homeless children as well as implement programs for school personnel to better understand the needs of these children. Problems like transportation needs, lack of birth & school records, immunization, residency issues, and guardianship are addressed in the process.
States give sub-grants to local education agencies (LEA) to makes sure these kids get enrolled, attend classes, and achieve academic success. LEAs also collaborate with other local agencies to provide much-needed services to homeless children and their families

Books In Braille & Audio Materials For The Blind And Disabled
|
|
If you think people are limited by their physical capacity, then you?re very much mistaken. Through ?National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS),? many standard-print materials were redeveloped to suit the reading needs of our fellow disabled citizens.
The cooperation of networking libraries through this service helps distribute reformatted reading materials of Braille and recorded audio tracks for easy reach of these eligible borrowers.
To be eligible, a person must be a citizen living in the United States or abroad, with 20/200 or lower visual acuity in the better eye, disabled people who are unable to read standard-print materials, and those who have any other special reading disability. Such conditions must be duly certified by a person of authority, such as an eye doctor, registered nurse, social worker, and in some cases, a professional librarian.
Participating libraries in the immediate area can send audio books and/or reading materials in Braille to qualified individuals by postage-free mail and can be returned to the library in the same manner.
Honorably-discharged members of the US Armed Forces who are blind and/or physically-handicapped will receive preferential treatment in receiving reading or audio materials. Hospitals, nursing homes, and schools catering to the reading needs of the blind or physically-handicapped can also benefit from this program.

Picking Up The Pieces After Disaster Strikes
|
|
Thanks to Cora Brown and her decision to leave part of her estate to the government in order to help natural disaster victims, many beneficiaries have managed to recover from devastating natural calamities. The ?Cora Brown Fund? has awarded financial aid to qualified beneficiaries amounting to over hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars in past years.
Funding from this source, however, will only be used if neither other government agency nor organization that has programs to address similar needs are able to cover targeted recipients.
Applicants who are eligible are persons, families, or groups needing disaster-related home repair; disaster-related unmet needs like medical, funeral, and transportation expenses; and other services that promote the well-being of such victims. Victims no longer need to apply, but are immediately identified and recommended by the Regional Director or by appointed representatives from other government or voluntary disaster agencies.
